Balancing Your Spa Water – pH

Testing and balancing your hot tub water is vital for your enjoyment and prolonging the life of your spa’s components.  Your spa water should be in the slightly basic ( or alkaline ) range.  The pH measurement for water can range from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral.  Water measuring below 7 is considered acidic, above 7 is considered basic/alkaline.  The safe and ideal range we recommend is between 7.4 – 7.6.  When the pH is too low the water can have a corrosive effect and create bather irritation.  When the pH is too high, calcium deposits can build up on the spa’s shell and equipment.  Calcium deposits can shorten the life of filters, heaters, sensors and jets, as well as be difficult to clean from the hot tub interior.  Proper pH balance also allows your sanitizer to work better.  Our Robarb unique liquid pH Up and pH Down are specially formulated for spas.  They are pre-blended and can be added directly to your spa’s water.  Please note, many of you with well water may need a fair amount of Robarb pH Down.
